Prepare Question: • How do you determine the job best suited for you? • How do you determine the next steps in your career? Answer: • Own your career. • Ask yourself a few questions: • What do I like to do? • How do I like to do it? • Do I have the skills I need to do it? • Is that job available? • Take free career assessments. • Find a mentor. • Ask questions of someone currently in the job. Dig Deep Question: • How do you determine if this is the right move for you? Answer: • Am I doing all that I can do in my current role? • Can I expand my role? • Are there obstacle? • Am I my own obstacle? • Am I running from something or running to something? Why? • What is the cost? • Financially? • Time? • Impact to my family? • Impact to my current job? • How long will it take? Exercise
Research Question: • How do you determine if you have the skills/ abilities needed for your next move? • How do you expand your current skills sets? • How will you know if you really like the role? • What will it take to be successful? Answer: • Research job descriptions on Monster, CareerBuilder, Indeed, Ladders, UTHealth, etc. • Is it enough money for the lifestyle I want? • Is it something I can see myself doing every day? • Call someone who is actually doing the job today. • Ask your mentor about skill requirements. • Highlight the skills you don’t have. • Be real with yourself.
