European dimension • Guidance by the EC (FISHERIES MEASURES FOR MARINE NATURA 2000 SITES) • Entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty • Discussions with the EC on procedures on the implementation of fishery measures in September 2010 • Revision of the CFP/Amendment of Technical Measures Regulations 157987 - v0 - Presentation North Sea RAC, 22 November 2010

Key question for FIMPAS project This project aims at identifying two questions: • To what extent do specific fishing activities significantly threaten attainment of the conservation objectives of the Natura 2000 sites? • What management measures would reduce these conflicts and how effective would they be at helping to ensure the favourable condition of these sites? 157987 - v0 - Presentation North Sea RAC, 22 November 2010
Results of the 2nd workshop on conflict analysis • [...], if insufficient information, rating based on reasoning and/or expert judgement. 157987 - v0 - Presentation North Sea RAC, 22 November 2010
ConclusionsDogger Bank • Disagreements among the participants with industry versus scientists: • Discussion points were the impacts that beam trawls have on the bottom compared to the natural impact e.g. from storms • Concerning the impact by gillnetting the concern is on the differences that different gillnets may have on bycatch 157987 - v0 - Presentation North Sea RAC, 22 November 2010
Third workshop: management options • Venue: Den Helder, Netherlands • Date: 24 – 26th January 2011 • Subject: development of fishery measures for the protection of Dogger Bank, Cleaver Bank & Frisian Front • Economics of MPA’s • Harbour porpoise protection • Dogger Bank: how to proceed 157987 - v0 - Presentation North Sea RAC, 22 November 2010
Other issues • Dogger Bank: development of a common regime between NL, G and UK for the protection of the Dogger Bank • Harbour porpoise: NL develop a species protection regime for the harbour porpoise more than an area oriented regime • Socio-economics: an extensive study of the economics of the MPA’s is made by the Dutch LEI • Intersessional meeting in December 2010 157987 - v0 - Presentation North Sea RAC, 22 November 2010
