  2. Explanation • You will use a jar, a strainer, some hot water, and some ice to create a mysterious substance.

  3. Focus Question • What is the substance that you will make with the jar, the strainer, the ice and the hot water?

  4. Materials/Procedure • Fill up the jar completely with hot water for about a minute. • Pour out almost all the water, but leave about one inch in the jar. • Put the strainer over the top of the jar. • Place a few (3-4) ice cubes in the strainer.

  5. Hypothesis • After you follow the procedure, what do you think the mysterious substance will be? Why do you think so?

  6. Results • Describe what happened when you placed the ice above the jar. Share your results.

  7. Conclusion • What mysterious substance did you create? • Was it a cloud? Was it precipitation? If so, what kind of cloud? What kind of precipitation?
