Issue World population growth and the competition for energy supplies has pushed tens of thousands of plant and wildlife species towards the brink of extinction.
The Demand for oil has clearly gone up in the past 50 years. Maps Because of a rise in demand, habitats are destroyed. This destruction has caused a lot of innocent animals to die.
As clearly shown here in the past 13 years, populations of certain animals has gone down in drastic proportions. You can only imagine what the population was like 50 years ago. In the past 50 years the demand for oil has quadrupled.
Facts Oiled birds: 59% Dead. Sea turtles: 73% Dead. Mammals: 91% Dead. Overall: 63%Died. Of the animals rescued, not all could be saved during the BP oil spill.
Innocent Animals do not need to be sacrificed for our oil consumption. There are other ways.
Supporting Ideas There are other fuel sources out there!! -Some companies use conventional ways of producing bio-fuels. - They use the wind, the sun, and our water to create power. -Other not-so-conventional companies use chicken fat, restaurant grease, even sewer water! Regardless, it still creates electricity. If we use less oil not only is going to save us money ($4 a gallon?!?) it will do wonders for our environment -Think about it, no dependency on oil = no need to drill in our beautiful earth for oil
What was the overall population of the animals that died in the BP oil spill? • List 2 unconventional bio-fuels • Name 1 reason why you think we should/should not try to lessen our dependency on oil. Questions???
