Licensure • Certification • NOT required by law • Non-governmental agency acknowledges that predetermined standards have been met. • Licensure • Required by law • Currently Montana, Tennessee, Florida, California and others require a license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.

  3. Accreditation • Accreditation is the approval of a “place” or “thing”. Evaluation process wherein a program or facility meets predetermined standards.For example: • The CLS program at WSU is accredited. • A laboratory is accredited.

  4. Professional Societies • American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) • Governed by Pathologists • Offer national exams • MLT(ASCP) • MT(ASCP) • They do not require Continuing Education
