God in heaven knows our future. He writes our destinies amidst our ambitious quest for direction and orchestrations.
Life is not long and full of wine and roses. Somehow we have to contend with eternity. A life worth living is living for others, in living in harmony with God’s gift of nature, in living for our fellow creatures, in living Christ’s precepts and directions.
“For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this and do that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings, all such rejoicing is evil.”
Deo volente – “If the Lord wills,” so shall it be done.
“Go to now, ye that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell and get gain.” (v.13, KJV)
“Mine is. Remember that Eve was carved out of Adam’s rib.” • “Admitted, but remember that the earth was created out of chaos in six days. That, obviously, was an engineering job.”
“The foolishness of man perverteth his way.” (Prov 19:3, KJV)
Titus in Latin or Titos in Greek, was a Gentile converted to Christianity. Titus is reminded by Apostle Paul of the kind of character that church leaders should have. Some Biblical authors opine that Titus became permanent Bishop of Crete in its early church history.
Antoine de Saint Exupery, a French writer and aviator, in his work the Wisdom of Sand succinctly writes: “The meaning of things lies not in the things but in our attitude towards them.”
Apostle James’ statement is a wake-up call, a reminder. “You don’t even know what your life tomorrow will be! You are a puff of smoke, which appears for a moment and then disappears.” (James 4:14, TEV)
“Whoever believeth in Him (Jesus) should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:15, KJV) “He that heareth my word, and believeth on Him that sent me, hath everlasting life.” (John 5:24, KJV)
The Holy Scriptures expanded the meaning of life on the spiritual level. Life took a strong spiritual meaning, that of our relationship with God, our Creator and Maker, and Savior of Mankind.
Eternal life is not merely earthly life existence. Eternal life is the quality of human as well as spiritual existence in relationship with God, the Father. • “And this is the way to have eternal life – to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.”(John 17:3, New Living Translation)
“Money is an instrument that can buy you everything but not happiness and pay your fare to every place but not heaven.”
“But Peter replied: ‘May your money perish with you for thinking God’s gift can be bought!’ “ (Acts 8:20, NLT)
We cannot bring with us the materials things we have acquired on this earth when we die. We bring to God the goodness He allowed us to do during our faith journey on earth.
