Background • Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma (PTC) and Follicular Thyroid Carcinoma(FTC) – most common malignancies of the thyroid gland. • PTC-papillary architecture, psammoma bodies, and cytologic characteristics • FTC- follicular epithelial neoplasm diagnosed when there is capsular or vascular invasion.

  2. Background • PTC - 90-95 % 10 year survival rate • FTC- 70-95% 10 year survival rate

  3. Background • Factors that affect prognosis: a. age b. gender c. histology and differentiation d. tumor size e. DNA euploidy f. CD97 g. E-cadherin h. telomerase activity, i. capsular and vascular invasion

  4. Background • This retrospective study was undertaken to evaluate clinical and prognostic relevance of vascular invasion in PTC and FTC, which may have therapeutic implications.
