Top 7 • 1. Monaco 16,487 ppl per square km • 2. Singapore • 3. Malta • 4. Bahrain • 5. Maldives • 6. Bangladesh • 7. Barbados 1000 ppl per square km
What do you think the population density of the entire earth is?
And the answer is….. 49 per km squared
And the answer is…. 3.1 per km squared
For example, Canada in 2003 • 31,000,000 people 10,000,000 km squared = 3.1 people per km squared

Problems with high pop. density • Overcrowding • Strain on resources (food, water, electricity) • Pollution • Security

Why do people live where they do? What factors determine where people choose to settle?
Some Factors Include: • Natural Resources > what natural resources are available in the area? (water, oil, gold etc.) • Weather > most people like to be in warmer climates whenever possible • Where is the work? > usually there are more jobs in the city….
Factors Continued… • Risk of natural disasters > some areas of North America are more prone to flooding, earthquakes, etc. can you think of any examples? • Where is your family + friends? > newcomers especially will go to areas where their family is, or where people from their native country are
