  1. 2 Chronicles 33:18 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the words of the seers that spake to him in the name of the LORD God of Israel, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel. Mannaseh: The Prayers of theWicked Presented at Calvary Apostolic Church Pastor Rex Deckard

  2. Who are the wicked? • All have sinned and come short of the glory of God • Anyone who is separated from a relationship with Jesus Christ is a sinner, regardless of how good or how bad their actions are • The Bible gives us illustrations of sinners, some of whom did truly evil things, and some who only disobeyed in small ways.

  3. We find that it was NOT WHAT THEY DID but rather WHAT THEY DID ABOUT IT that counted to Godin the end.

  4. Mannaseh Let’s take a look at Mannaseh, possibly the most evil king that every reigned in Jerusalem

  5. Background… II Chronicles 33:1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem: 2 But did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel. 3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 4 Also he built altars in the house of the LORD, whereof the LORD had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever. 5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.

  6. There’s more…. 6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. • And he set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:

  7. “Pass through the fire” Some contend that the children were thrown into a raging fire. Certain rabbinic writers describe a hollow bronze statute in the form of a human but with the head of an ox. According to the rabbis, children were placed in the structure which was then heated from below. Drums were pounded to drown out the cries of the children. An alternate view contends that the expression "passed through Molech" refers not to human sacrifices but that parents gave up their children to grow up as temple prostitutes Homan Bible Dictionary

  8. 9 So Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to err, and to do worse than the heathen, whom the LORD had destroyed before the children of Israel. • 10 And the LORD spake to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not hearken.

  9. Mannassah • Possibly the most wicked of all the kings that ruled Judah • He massacred his own children in hideous death rituals to the pagan god Molech. • He caused all of Judah to fall into great sin and idolatry • He led the nation into witchcraft • He set up altars of idols in the Temple of the Lord

  10. And… • He had a familiar (demonic) spirit • When God spoke to him and the people, they ignored it • Judgement came upon the land and he was carried into captivity • He was finally bound with chains and thrown into prison in a foreign land

  11. His behavior brought judgment on many others… • (2 Ki 21:10 KJV) And the LORD spake by his servants the prophets, saying,Because Manasseh king of Judah hath done these abominations, and hath done wickedly above all that the Amorites did, which were before him, and hath made Judah also to sin with his idols: • Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall tingle.

  12. Manaseh’s sin lingered for years upon Jerusalem 2 Kings 23:26 Notwithstanding the LORD turned not from the fierceness of his great wrath, wherewith his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations that Manasseh had provoked him withal. And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.

  13. But after all of that he prayed 2 Chronicles 33:12 And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, And prayed unto him: and he was entreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God.

  14. And repented…… 2 Chronicles 33:15 And he took away the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of the LORD, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the LORD, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city. • And he repaired the altar of the LORD, and sacrificed thereon peace offerings and thank offerings, and commanded Judah to serve the LORD God of Israel.

  15. And when he cried unto God….. • In Prison in a foreign land, he lifted up his voice unto God. • It would be like Charles Manson, Hitler, Stalin, or Saddam Hussein after finally being caught and brought to justice… • A child killer finally behind bars! • A demon crazed killer caught at last! • Crying out to the judge….

  16. God heard him! • And finding mercy and forgiveness • and not only that, but restoration to power!

  17. God doesn’t care where you came from…. He cares about where you are headed to now! You can’t change your past, but you can change your future!

  18. Grace Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I’m found, was blind but now I see!

  19. Mercy and Pardon Mercy there was great and grace was free, Pardon there was multiplied to me There my burdened soul found liberty At Calvary……..

  20. An account settled There was a time on earth, when in the book of Heaven, an old account was written, of sins yet unforgiven. My name was at the top, and many things below, I went unto the keeper, and settled long ago. My old account was large, and growing every day, for I was always sinning, and never tried to pay. But when I looked ahead, I saw such pain and woe, I said that I would settle, and settled long ago. Long ago, long ago. The old account was settled long ago….

  21. The Publican’s Prayer • 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. • 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. • 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

  22. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. • 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

  23. When Jesus told this parable, some of his disciples were former Pharisees, and others were former publicans!

  24. The Sinners prayer is repentance Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

  25. Revelations 2:21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. 22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. 23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

  26. Repentance is… 1)Telling God your genuinely sorry 2) Asking for forgiveness 3) Deciding not to live that way anymore

  27. What happens next? Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

  28. Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
