Technical assistance on formulas • School Lunch Programs (Comedores escolares): • Advised the Puerto Rico Department of Education on the implications of newly released data on the cost of living in Puerto Rico to potentially justify increases in reimbursement rates for the “bandeja escolar”. • The first publication of the Cost-of-Living Index showed that supermarket items in Puerto Rico were 23 percent higher than the average cost in the United States.
Technical assistance on formulas • Medicare Physician Fee Schedule • Provided Medicare with up-to-date malpractice premium information from the Puerto Rico Office of the Insurance Commissioner to increase rates paid to doctors in Puerto Rico. the Malpractice Geographic Practice Cost Index increased 18 percent. • Providing technical assistance on a potential housing subsidy bias in the formulas used by Medicare to compensate doctors in Puerto Rico.
