Overview of SBS GEM Trackers Modules • Front Tracker (FT): Track of the recoil protons • 1st tracker: 6 GEM layers, active area of 150 × 40 cm2 • Layer: vertical stack of 3 GEM modules (50 × 40 cm2) • Production: 18 modules (+3 spares) • Back Tracker (BT): Polarimetry of the recoil protons • 2nd & 3rd Trackers: 2 × 5 layers, active area of 200 × 60 cm2 • Layer: vertical stack of 4 GEM modules (60 × 50 cm2) • Production: 40 modules (+ 8 spares) Back Tracker layer (UVa) Front Tracker layer INFN (Rome, Catania) Stack of 4 GEM modules (60 × 50 cm2) Stack of 3 GEM modules (40 × 50 cm2) Hadron arm in GEp(5) SBS Coll. Production of Polarimeter GEM modules @ UVa UVa GEM @ JLab UVa GEM @ JLab 16 UVa modules 8 UVa modules • 48 modules built and tested • 45 modules are fully operational, with 2 of them having one disabled sector but97% operational • 3 modules have issues and are under investigation • Parts for 2 more modules to be constructed soon • 29 modules already moved to JLab • 24 in GEM clean storage room, 5 on test beam stand • 12 more to be shipped next week (week Monday 26th) • Space in GEM “Clean” room is becoming critical • All 41 modules tested again before shipping to JLab SBS Coll. Back Tracker GEM Frame trails for HDMI cables and low voltage board Alu Frame for 4 UVa GEMs Patch panels for HDMI LV power box & ventilation Voltage regulator boards & HDMI Patch Panels • Frame prototype tested at UVa, some fixes done at JLab • All 10 frames needed for SBS program stored in test lab • Modifications of cable trails to allow space for the HDMI cables. • Electronics and HDMI cable are are ready for installation • Design for a power box for low voltage PS SBS Coll. Cosmic Stand for GEM Trackers • We set up the Cosmic Test platform • Currently with 3 INFN GEM chambers installed • two already fully equipped with the electronics • Electronic for 3rd is available to equipped chamber will be equipped next week • Stand not large enough for UVa chamber • Rack with MPD electronics and HV PS and DAQ PC • Start commissioning of INFN GEM chambers • Coordination with Evaristo Cosmic Stand in GEM Clean room Trigger Scintillator INFN GEM chamber INFN GEM chamber Temporary stand for UVa GEM INFN GEM chamber Trigger Scintillator DAQ & HV PS Crate SBS Coll. Preparation for GMn: GEM Gas System SBS Summer Coll. Meeting @ JLab
Preparation for GMn: GEM Gas System The existing gas system is sufficient for the Bigbite GEM configuration of GMn and GEn (polarized 3He experiment) We need to evaluate the gas needs for the GEM based polarimeter for the Gep (5) measurement during GMn SBS Summer Coll. Meeting @ JLab
Plans for GMn GEM Trackers in the coming months • Preparation and commissioning of SBS GEMs for GMn expeiment • Kondo & Siyu (Nilanga Grad. Student) in charge of the GEM chambers commissioning in preparation for GMn • Siyu is coming back to JLab in May 2018 to work on the testing • Coordinate with Evaristo group to start data taking • INFN Ph. D student to help with data taking until end March 2018 for this purpose • Cosmic Test of INFN layers • Cosmic stand is ready to go with 3 INFN layers fully equipped with the readout electronics • Expect to finalise the set up and start data taking in March with Evaristo group • Goal is to prepare 12 best INFN GEM modules for the 4 GMn GEM Tracker layers • Evaluate the overall GEM response ⇨ identify all dead HV sectors • Perform HV scan on each module to study and optimise efficiency • Need to set up similar test setup for UVa GEM layer • Currently we can test UVa GEM module on the cosmic test setup but not the full chamber • Need to make more space in GEM clean room for a UVa GEM standalone testing stand SBS Coll. Summary • Production Status of Polarimeter (UVa) GEM modules • 48 modules built & tested, spare parts for two more chambers to be built • 3 modules have issues under investigation • GEM clean storage room in Test Lab. • 29 (+12) UVa GEM modules & 3 full INF GEM layers are stored in GEM clean room • Cosmic stand setup is ready with the full DAQ and HV PS for 3 INFN layers • UVa layer for GMN will have a standalone setup for test • Gas system need for the GMn GEMs has evaluated • GEM electronic shielding box for GMn has been designed and scheme for optimal HDMI cabling is set • Plans for commissioning of GEMs for GMn • Start commissioning of INFN GEM chambers in the coming weeks in coordination with Evaristo • We need to find a solution for UVa GEM chamber test • Kondo & Siyu will be in charge of the GEMs at JLab • Siyu be back at Jlab in May to work on commissioning SBS Coll.
