Students will analyze texts, cite evidence, summarize central ideas, and explore the structure of arguments. They will also discuss foreshadowing in "The Glory Field" and make predictions about the plot. Weekly vocabulary and assessments will reinforce learning.

Instructional Activities Monday, 3/25/19 I-Ready Monday Students will work to complete and pass three I-Ready Lessons per week. Any not completed in class will be completed at home.
Instructional Activities Tuesday, 3/26/19 Milestone Review *Students will go over answers to the previous Milestone review and begin a new practice assessment. Students will keep their packets once they grade them to study before the testing in May.
Instructional Activities Wednesday, 3/27/19 Part III: April 1900 The objective of this lesson will be to explore some of the possible foreshadowing that happens in this section, and to discuss some of the possible outcomes. • Prediction - Read aloud with the class the part where Elijah prepares to leave Glory Field and hopes to see it again someday. Have the students each write a short prediction about what this strange presentation could be foreshadowing. How will this be important to the plot? Do you think it gives away too much? Why? What evidence is there in the scene to support your belief? Allow some volunteers to read their ideas. • Group Activity- Split the class into groups and assign each group one of the characters in this chapter. Have the groups write predictions about what they think will happen in this book to their assigned characters due to the foreshadowed events talked about in this chapter. Will Elijah find a place he belongs after leaving The Glory Field? Will the sheriff continue his manipulative ways? Will Abby and Mary keep their close friendship? Why? Will the Klan bother the family? Groups will cite examples from the text to support their ideas.
Instructional Activities Thursday, 3/28/19 Part III: April 1900 The objective of this lesson will be to explore some of the possible foreshadowing that happens in this section, and to discuss some of the possible outcomes. • Class Discussion - Read aloud with the class the part where Abby says he loves Jazz music even though his mother hates it, and says the new generation has to break away from the old. Discuss this with the class. What do you think will happen in the plot to explain this? What possible reasons does Abby have for not wanting to be exactly like his ancestors? What are the possible consequences of this way of advancing the plot? Where will this branch of the plot go? • Prediction Activity - Have the students skim the chapter to find some more examples of possible foreshadowing. Write these examples on the board as they are given. Have the students each choose one of these examples and write about what they think will happen as a result of this foreshadowing.
