Neutralization rEactions • Neutralization Reaction: a reaction in which an acid and a base react in an aqueous solution to produce a salt and water
Products of Neutralization Reaction • Acids provide cations, and Bases provide anions for the reaction. • The strong polar force that the two substances create allow for the creation of a strong ionic bond, often creating a salt, along with excess water.
Titration • Titration- The process in which an acid-base neutralization reaction is used to determine the concentration of a solution with an unknown concentration
Vocab for Titration • Buret- piece of glassware used for dispensing accurate volumes • titrant- the substance of known concentration added to the analyte in a titration • usually a liquid
Vocab for Titration cont. • analyte- the substance being analyzed with unknown concentration • equivalence point- the point at which neutralization occurs
Vocab for Titration cont. • end point- the point at which there is a sudden change in a physical property • indicator- a compound having a physical property that changes abruptly near the equivalence point

Practice Problems • It takes 8L of 3M NaOH to completely neutralize 7L of HCl with an unknown molarity. What is the molarity of HCl?
Practice Problems • It takes 23L of 8M of NaOH to completely neutralize a 9M solution of HCl of an unknown volume. What is the volume of HCl?
