The Problem: • High turnover • Lack of qualified candidates • Typical pattern of internal promotions • Ever-changing operating environment
The Need: • High quality, consistent and relevant Leadership and Management development and training. • Tailored to the needs of FW&P with the purpose of empowering leaders and training managers. The Program: • FW&P designed LMDP to develop and recruit the next generation of leaders and managers within the agency. • Four 3-day sessions are scheduled quarterly at rotating locations across the state.
Guiding Principles of the Leadership & Management Development Program (LMDP) • Purpose: To build visionary leaders and effective managers. • Program is tailored, relevant and actively applied. • Foster and enhance relationships within Fish, Wildlife & Parks. • Consistent AND consciously evolving curriculum. • “Teach them to teach – first themselves and then others.” • Training is accessible to all qualified employees.

Other Program Features and Benefits: • Application Process. • Equals 1 year of supervisory experience. • CE credits available. • On-going evaluation and critique.
Current Status: • Four programs completed. • Fifth program in progress. • 128 employees have been selected. • 100 employees have graduated. • Sixth program to be conducted in 2007. • Offered annually as long as there’s a need. • 34% of graduates advanced or promoted. • 24 within FW&P and 9 outside FW&P.
