Needs Assessment • Problem/opportunity? • Most students majoring in MNGT 900 have not actively participated in the resort/spa arena. • What is currently available? • Basic textbook instruction and recorded media is available for classroom viewing. Hands on learning is typically reserved for internships with local resorts/spas and limited to general customer service. • What should be available? • On the job training is needed for this industry. Students must be shown that real work takes place behind the scenes. This is a multi-billion dollar industry whose existence is based solely upon the personal desires of those seeking lavish & personal attention. Instructional Plan Template | Slide 2

  4. Instructional Goal • Students will be able to demonstrate their learning of hospitality management guidelines and will be able to utilize the hospitality management’s star-rating system. Instructional Plan Template | Slide 4

Performance-Based Objectives • Students should be able to: • Define the 10 basic hospitality guidelines for resort/spa management. • Identify the style of hospitality management that each of the visited resorts/spas used for their operation. • Utilize the star-rating system to grade and cite each visited resort/spa. • Prove understanding of the taught lessons by accomplishing all objective with 85% or greater. Learning Context • Learning environment: • The intended classroom will include numerous 80” plasma televisions for side-by-side visual comparisons of equally rated facilities; several professor authored textbooks; 4 seasonal fieldtrips to resorts/spas; in-person interviews with frequent visitors of local resorts/spas; & panel discussions with the board of chamber members in charge of hospitality. • Students will meet 3 days per week-3 hours each day and field trips will be 2 weeks long during each season. Due to student flexibility, trips may be taken in partnered groups with a trained facilitator. • Delivery of class instruction will be in an auditory/visual environment. Most classes will include film/video and discussion according to hospitality guidelines and the star-rating system. Instructional Plan Template | Slide 8

  9. Delivery Modality • Instruction for this class will be: • Instructor-led: Wednesday and Friday • Synchronous virtual world learning: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday • Field experiences • 4 times per year - one trip per season • Regional locations Instructional Plan Template | Slide 9

Plan for Implementation • MNGT 900 • Class duration • One calendar year beginning January 01st - December 31st • Class instruction • Wednesday and Friday - Instructor led 6 – 8pm • TV’s, computers, textbooks, handouts, discussion, written/oral tests • Monday, Tuesday & Thursday synchronous virtual environment 6 – 9pm • Computers, headphones/microphones • Field experiences • 4 per year/1 per season • Regional locations • One week stay Instructional Plan Template | Slide 11

Plan for Implementation • MNGT 900 • Class members must • Have current involvement with a resort/spa • Seek to own a resort/spa • Financially back 100% of the resort/spa start-up costs • Have taken & passed MNGT prerequisites {student or continuing education} • Supply all personal electronic needs: laptop, digital camera, camcorder, etc • Supply all travel needs: airfare, hotel, transportation, meals, gratuities, etc Instructional Plan Template | Slide 12

Plan for Implementation • MNGT 900 • Enrollment • Private instruction, students seek us and must meet all criteria to enroll – no exceptions • Participants • Enrollment is open to all who meet the strict requirements.   15. Formative Assessment • Assessments will be performed beginning day one. They will end on day 365. All in class, virtual world, discussion, etc will be assessed. Everything is critiqued – especially YOU Observation, exams, peers, virtual, stars… Teamwork Instructional Plan Template | Slide 15

Evaluation Strategies Students will evaluate the class instruction in the following: • Completion of a short answer survey • Group review of instructional aspects • Budget preparation • Architectural design • Marketing • Legal guidelines Students will evaluate themselves and their peers in the following: • Follow-up with the resort/spa development board • Numerical rating review • Star-rating system for their designed resort/spa portfolio Instructional Plan Template | Slide 16
