How did you bring in the New Year? What does "auld langsyne" mean? (Take a moment to google the answer) What are your new years resolutions?
1. Other than God, what are the things you treasure most in this world? Read: Matt 13: 44-46 2. What would you say if all the above were taken away but you could still have God? Would that be hard? Would that even be possible?
3. Share about one or two of the activities listed below that are the hardest for you to do in Jesus’ name. Sleeping, Waking up, Eating, Doing everyday relationships, Working, Handling conflict, Spending money, Driving, Doing household chores, Watching TV, Recreational activities.
4. In many ways, our experience of God in an ordinary day is like reading the “Where’s Waldo” books. We need to develop the skill of identifying God’s presence in our lives. So how do we do that? Can you give some examples of times when you have found God in the ordinary?
Read: Col 3:17 5. Think about your relationships with your family, friends, and neighbors. Paul said whatever we do “in word or deed” should be done in Jesus’ name. Think of the words you’ve spoken so far today. If you only uttered words in Jesus’ name—how many words would you have to take back? What would it mean to relate in Jesus’ name to people you dislike?
Read: Psalm 3:5 6. The Bible tells us that sleep is an act of TRUST. So how should we practice what we might call “sleep discipleship”?

All restlessness, all impurity, all worry and anxiety flee before him. Therefore, in the early morning hours of the day, may our many thoughts and our many idle words be silent and may the first word and the first thought belong to the one to whom our whole life belongs.” - Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Read: 1 peter 5:6-7, Psalm 5:3 7. What would it look like tomorrow, when you wake up, to cast your anxieties on Jesus? What is an example of what you have prayed or would pray first think in the morning?
Read: Psalm 104:14 8. Do you think how we handle food is merely a physical matter or do you think it is a spiritual matter as well? 9. What would it look like to find God in the ordinary of what we eat?
10. How do you spend the majority of your leisure time? In what way can you find & honor Jesus in those times?
Application Read: 1 Thess 5:16-19 It may sound overwhelming to “pray continually” but about think it this way. Think 60 in 60 - every 60 minutes, spend 60 seconds talking with God, inviting him into that moment. Try to do this for the rest of the week and see if you feel God more present in your daily life.
