Online learning – product suite development • Sydney Institute – online course suite • Existing • 27 courses identified as available as fully self-paced online • To be actively promoted from Semester 2 2013 • Planned • 17 courses in development or planned as self-paced online
Online learning – MOOC development • Open2Study –Open Universities Australia MOOC platform • Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform • Launched 21 March • SI offers two inaugural programs – Sport and Recreation and Financial Planning • Over 1400 enrolments in 14 days since platform launch
Open2Study – Key platform features Course offerings • Free, 4-week ‘taster’ courses in a range of disciplines • 10 inaugural courses • 2 Sydney Institute courses –Financial Planning and Sport/Recreation • Enrolments open, first course starts 22 April • 50 course offerings proposed by end 2013
Open2Study – Key platform features Course content • 4 topics over 4 weeks • 1 - 3 hours study time per topic/week • 6 – 10 pieces of video content of 4-6 mins each per topic and quiz assessments • Peer discussion facilitated through discussion board and/or Twitter feed • Automated assessment model without support requirement from provider
Open2Study – Course development process What was involved? • Four SI teachers selected as subject matter experts to work with OUA • OUA provided guidance with learning design (storyboarding, script writing, etc) • Three teachers nominated as presenters to develop video content • Visit to Melbourne mid February for video production
Course structure: • 4 Subjects • 4 Modules • 10 topics per module • Assessment: • 36 quizzes • Feedback and Hints • 4 Final assessments per • Module • Readings and resources
