TECHNOLOGIST or THERAPIST • Three to four years of college plus some work experience. • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
TECHNICIAN • Associate’s degree • Some technicians receive OJT for 3 to 4 years
AIDE or ASSISTANT • Does not have to attend college. They only need special training for a set number of hours. • Some assistants receive OJT
It means to be MULTI-SKILLED This type of worker is in high demand.
How can the use of multi-skilled workers reduce the cost of health care?
Multi-skilled workers… Are often employed in smaller facilities and in rural areas because the cost of employing a specialist would be to great.
Many hospitals train their employees to work in several areas. When the census is down in their primary area they may be asked to help in another area that day.
Do you want to be an entrepreneur? Many health care providers are deciding to try it.
ENTREPRENEUR One who organizes, manages, and assumes the risk of a business.
EXAMPLES • Dental hygienist • Nurse practitioner • Physician assistant • Dentist • Chiropractor • Massage therapist
Entrepreneurship is risky. It requires a certain level of business sense but may be very rewarding for a motivated, independent person.
