Field Program – Yield Trials • Approx. 9300 yield trial plots in NC • Five NC locations: Clayton, Kinston (Caswell and Cunningham farms), Lewiston, Salisbury • Up from 6000 in 2011 • Mixed results with low yields at some locations (drought, heat stress) • Additional 5300 plots coordinated from Raleigh • Two public, five private company cooperators • Heat and drought stress at some locations
Germplasm in trials • S2 families derived from GEM breeding crosses • GEM released lines • GEM breeding crosses • Potential new germplasm for breeding crosses
Nursery • Approx. 3000 rows plus 1200 rows in isolation • Six GEM breeding crosses for S1 development • Six GEM S1’s for S2 development • Allelic Diversity (450 rows in summer, 120 in winter) • Forty-one new breeding crosses produced (24 GEM x GEM and 17 tropical x GEM) • GEM bulk increases for released lines and potential releases
