Current service • Park & Ride (parking fare = 2 euro/day) • Bus service connecting the P&R to the city centre and Heyendaal (Waalsprinter) • Dedicated bus lane direction south • Service frequency is 10 min in rush hours and 15 min off-peak • Bus fare = 0 • Demand = 200 travelers/weekday (2009)
Improving the Waalsprinter service 2. Current service • Transport option only available for non-captive car users. • Currently, car+Waalsprinter routes have slightly lower generalized travel costs than car-only routes for all origins. • Generalized travel costs for the routes using the Waalsprinter range from 50 to 60 min, depending on the trip origin (average = 55 min). • Generalized travel costs for the only-car routes range from 51 to 64 min (average = 61 min). • The Waalsprinter service is used by travelers coming from origins other than Waalsprong and Bemmel.
Improving the Waalsprinter service 3. Service improvements • Higher level of comfort in the Park & Ride waiting room • Higher level of travel comfort on the bus • Reduce the parking fare (from 2 to 1 euro/day) • Increase the bus frequency in peak hours to 8 services/h • Advertising campaign

Target groups • a)Directly: • 200 travelers per day that are currently using the Waalsprinter service to go/come back to/from the city centre from/to northern origins. • 200 non-captive car travelers per day who are expected to switch modes and use the Waalsprinter. • b) Indirectly: • All car travelers using the Waalbrug route to access/leave the city centre from/to the northern origins/destinations (2000-2500 veh/h/direction in rush hours).

a) Generalized travel costs -7.3% reduction on average for 200 travelers/day who currently use the Waalsprinter service to go/come back to/from all northern origins except Waalsprong and Bemmel. -16.4% reduction on average for 200 non-captive car travelers per day coming from all northern origins (except Waalsprong and Bemmel) who will switch mode according to our assumptions. -0.4% reduction on average for users of car-only routes.
