Using SketchUp to make a house model from elevation drawings. Simple skills…trace, push/ pull, rotate, copy, scale…
Trace over a single side of one elevation view if the house is fairly close to symmetrical.
Move/copy the required items away from the elevations and rotate.
Bring the rotated section back to a different elevation view.
Shed dormer shortened to match side elevation. Some additional lines may need to be deleted.
Copy the model, and scale to -1 through the center (this mirrors the model).
Use protractor tool to discover angle of roofline (work off red, green, or blue axis).
Continue filling in details as required. Push/pull, and copy model.
Scale a mirror image of the second model section, and bring to touch first model.
If you made a group or component of either model, explode it (right click on the object, select explode).
Triple click or drag a window to select everything, right click, and select “Intersect Faces-With Selection”.
May need to delete some lines from the bottom/middle of model.
Select all, intersect faces again. Notice lines where faces meet in the next slide.
Scale house so Susan, the SketchUp lady is about the right size.
To finish… • Add doors, windows, pillars, and paint as required.
