  3. Reason for Meditation Study Using my beard as a representation of life. Life gets messy and can get frustrating, knowing how to channel ones feelings and emotions will prevent dis ease.
  4. Goals for Meditation Cleaning of the spirit to prevent dis ease. It is said that forms of dis ease will generally lead to disease. Depending on ones beliefs there are many other benefits to meditation.
  5. Resources The self help and new age sections of book stores is an excellent place to start. There is easy searching, just walk the isles and choose something that catches your eye.

  7. What is Meditation Meditation is a practice of concentrated focus upon a sound, object, visualization, the breath, movement, or attention itself in order to increase awareness of the present moment, reduce stress, promote relaxation, and enhance personal and spiritual growth.
  8. Benefits of Meditation Meditation is supposed to cultivate an emotional stability that allows the meditator to experience intense emotions fully while simultaneously maintaining perspective on them.
  9. Types of Meditation Mindfulness meditationpractices involve becoming aware of the entire field of attention. Being aware of all thoughts, feelings, perceptions or sensations as they arise in each moment.
  10. Method of Meditation Formal mindfulnesspractice, the meditator sits with eyes closed, focusing the attention on the sensations and movement of the breath for approximately 45-60 minutes at a time, at least once a day.
  11. Types of Meditation Concentration meditationpractices involve focusing attention on a single object. The purpose of concentrative practices is to learn to focus one's attention or develop concentration.
  12. Method of Meditation Transcendental meditation, the meditator sits with closed eyes and concentrates on a single syllable or word (mantra) for 20 minutes at a time, twice a day. Example: In with the good as you breath in and out with the bad with each exhalation.

  14. Dont’sof Practicing Meditation If you have a dog(s), don’t meditate unless you play with the dogs long enough to make them tired enough so they will be resting while you attempt meditation.
  15. Dont’sof Practicing Meditation Meditating on an empty stomach is also a big distraction, all that growling makes me think of food and I can’t work on an empty stomach. Grrrrrrr ……….
  16. Will Music Soothe the Soul? Music is said to help in the meditation process. A resource for possible music for meditation was found at the following link. http://www.dharma.org/resources/audio I like the music but it distracts me, I keep drifting off with the music. This usually ends up with me falling asleep.
  17. My Meditation Program Meditating on Sunday Evenings to prepare for the weeks work 20 to 30 minutes. Meditating Wednesday evenings after C.A.E. class. This one usually ends up with me falling asleep. Meditating on Friday after work to end my week.
