  1. Procedures & Expectations In Mr. Calderon’s Classroom

  2. Vocabulary • What’s a Procedure? • A procedure is the set of actions for how to do something. • What’s an Expectation? • An expectation is the level to which I will hold you accountable for your actions, and vice versa. • Why are there no “rules”? • There are! A rule is just something that results in a consequence when broken. • Failure to follow proper procedures and ignore expectations will result in some form of an appropriate consequence. • Loss of points, parent conference, detention, missing out on “luxury activities”, etc.

  3. Procedures • Enter the room quietly • You don’t have to be silent, but DO NOT be disruptive. • Model? • Begin to work on the posted Bell Work immediately • If you want to talk to someone before class, do so in the hallway • Be in your seat when the bell rings • Otherwise you are tardy • Leave the room as you entered it • The bell doesn’t dismiss you, I do

  4. Procedures • Course Work • All coursework needs this generic heading unless otherwise specified • Name, Assignment, Hour, & Date • I will model both the paper and digital version • Use the front and back of your paper, or print dual-sided • Write on the lines of your paper only • Digital work: double-spaced, 12 pt. font, Times New Roman • Use the appropriately labeled inbox when handing in paper work. • Email or share via Google Docs all digital work • Late work will not be accepted without a valid reason • Excused absence, were given additional time, etc.

  5. Procedures • Have a question during my instruction? • Quietly raise your hand and I will call on you. • I may not do so immediately but I will acknowledge you and then call on you when able • Have a question during group or individual work? • 3 before me…otherwise same protocol as above • Need to leave class? • If I’m instructing, try to wait until after I’m done unless it’s an emergency • Don’t raise your hand and ask to do so. Just bring an already prepared hall pass for me to sign • Abuse of this privilege will result in the loss of it • Need to sharpen your pencil? • Wait to do so until after instruction

  6. Procedures • Use of Personal Technology • You are allowed to have it • Listen to music when allowed • Use it as a resource when allowed • But…do not use any unauthorized technology during a quiz, test, or any individual/group work where prohibited. • Abuse of this will result in its confiscation • Repeated abuse will result in you not being able to bring it to this class again • Daily Objectives

  7. Expectations • Be Prepared • Arrive each day with all your materials • 3-ring binder with 4 separator tabs • Pencil or Pen, preferably a Pencil • Paper (at least loose leaf from your binder) • Have all assignments ready to hand-in that are due • Beginning of class, unless otherwise specified • Come to class ready to learn!! • If you have a question or comment, tell me • If you think I made a mistake, tell me • Be constructive though

  8. Expectations • Be Respectful • Respect school & other people’s property • Don’t write on desks • Don’t stuff anything down the sink • Leave other people’s property alone unless given permission • Respect others • Don’t push, shove, hit, slap, or bump others…period • I don’t care if you’re “playing”…don’t do it • Don’t verbally attack, talk bad about, or bully others • Same applies to this class (constructive criticism) • Respect yourself • Understand that the primary person to suffer from your negative actions is you

  9. Expectations • Be Open-Minded • While you should always be skeptical, be willing to change your mind in light of overwhelming evidence • Be open to new ideas and concepts • Have a good attitude when taking part in class activities • Be willing to recognize that you deserve an education • Be willing to recognize that you may be capable of a lot more than you currently realize • Don’t let the past hold you back…focus on the present and prepare for the future

  10. Expectations • All of this applies to me too!! • What are your expectations of me & this class? • Let me know!!

  11. Tentative Nature • I reserve the right to add to or edit the class Procedures & Expectations at any time • I will formally notify you of any such changes • Typical Class Period (remember…tentative) • Start class with Bell Work (I take role here) • Usually reinforcing a previous class concept, or working on previous work • 15-30 minute lecture, depending on unit material • A lab activity, individual work, and/or some level of group work for much of the remainder of the period • Some type of class wrap-up • Discussion, final comments, lab review, etc.
