Knights Hello! Today I will be telling you about how someone would become a knight during the Middle Ages & what a knight’s armor is made of.
How to Become a Knight • First, at age 7 a boy would become a page and go live with a knight and learn to use a hand weapon. • Second, at age 15 a page would become a squire and learn to be a skilled horseman and ride into battle with his knight. • Third, after about 5 years of service as a squire someone royal or a knight would place the flat side of the sword on the squire’s shoulder and say these words “I dub thee knight.” • If a knight does not follow the code of chivalry he will have his sword cut and lose his knighthood.
Knight’s Armor - Chainmail • In the early Middle Ages a knight’s amour was called Chainmail. • Chainmail was made of thousands of little chains connected together but it wouldn’t protect against heavy blows.
Knight’s Armor – Metal Plates • In the later Middle Ages there came metal amour made from big metal plates covering the knights body. • This armor was very heavy and was very difficult to wear.
