Bea Hanson • Principal Deputy Director of the United States Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women (OVM) • Serves Department of Justice, Federal and State and International Governments • Served OVM since 2011 • Chief Program Officer for Safe Horizon in New York City (350,000 victims annually) and joined in 1997 as Director Emergency Services • Earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Social Welfare from City University in New York • Masters in Social Work from Hunter College School of Social Work in New York • Bachelor of Art from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor

Causes • Based on the different reasons that was found in the research about Domestic Violence, this is what we have found… • Overall lack of re sources: • Language • Bilingual Staff • Culture • Education • Alcohol Abuse

Effects • The consequences why the Latino community need support are for the following • Death • Deportation • Immigration Status in the U,S. • Separation of the family
Possible Solutions • Raising Awareness • Educate the Latino Community • Networking • Increase survivors participation in awareness • Understand the importance of current Domestic Violence programs • Enhance understanding race differences or people of color • Culture competence; religion, traditions, language, etc…
