Hinduism-Is both monotheistic and polytheistic-Monotheistic-A universal spirit called Brahman created the universe and everything in it. Everything in the world is a part of Brahman.-Brahman is the absolute. Brahman cannot be comprehended or contacted by humans.
Hinduism-Polytheistic-Believe in many gods, but they are all aspects of Brahman-Of the many gods and goddesses, three principal figures stand out the most-Brahma (The creator)-Siva (The destroyer)-Vishnu (The protector)
Hinduism-Hindu gods have incarnations, or forms they take on earth.-For example, it is believed that Vishnu has had 9 incarnations on earth.-Many believe that the 9th was the Buddha-It is also believed that the 10th will represent the end of the world
Hinduism-It is believed that everyone has a soul, or atman, inside them. -Your atman is a spark of Brahman which holds your personality and the qualities that make you who you are
Hinduism-A person’s ultimate goal should be to reunite your soul with Brahman, the universal spirit.-This salvation is known as Moksha.-Hindus believe that their souls will eventually join with Brahman because this world is only an illusion. Brahman is the only reality.-It takes many lives to understand this, which is why Hindus believe in reincarnation, or the process of rebirth.-Many Hindus are vegetarians because of their belief in reincarnation and their view that all living things are part of the same universal spirit.
Hinduism-The form you are reincarnated into depends upon your karma, the effects that good or bad actions have on a person’s soul.-Good karma can be achieved by accepting your place in the world without complaint. Your path in life is known as your dharma.-If one follows their dharma and achieves good karma, they can eventually break free from the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth, known as samsara.
Hinduism-There are many ways to achieve moksha-different ways to worship-prayer/meditation/devotional service-Many Hindus choose the path and gods they wish to follow.
