National Green House Goals of National Green House • Navigate through G.P.S. – Green Practices through Sai • Lead a ‘Green-life’, thereby serving as examples in the society • Develop reuse and recycle programs at Sai centers, homes, and communities • Create teaching modules to disseminate green practices

  7. Eco-Sadhana – Food • Do not waste food • Buy vegetables at farmers market • Eat organic • Grow vegetables • Eat vegetarian • Less oily food

  8. Eco-Sadhana – Water • Turn off water while brushing, shaving, cleaning dishes • Take shorter showers • Use low flush toilets • Rain barrel to irrigate plants

  9. Eco-Sadhana – Energy • Unplug all electrical gadgets • Switch off AC, lights • Use products with EnergyStar label • Put computers in ‘energy-save’ mode • Turn off computer monitors • Use washing machine and dish-washer at off-peak times

  10. Eco-Sadhana – Materials • Avoid use of plastic bags • Reuse paper (print on both sides) + Recycle it • Avoid usage of paper plates, napkins, plastic cutlery • Avoid drinking bottled water + Drink tap water

  12. Eco-Sadhana: Sept – Oct 09 E-Waste Collection • Purpose:- Collect e-waste in a community • Reuse functional products • Donate to Refugees • Charities • Recycle non-functional (damaged or obsolete) products at local recycling centers

  13. What is E-Waste? • Computers (desktops + laptops/notebooks) • Computer monitors, mouse, keyboards, webcams • Cell phones • Printers + scanners • TVs • Batteries (alkaline, nickel cadmium, rechargeable) • Cameras + MP3 players + IPods • Laptop chargers + Cellphone chargers

  15. E-Waste Project Implementation Framework • E-Waste Collection • Collection bins at Sai centers • Collection directly at consumers homes E-Waste with Consumers Reuse (Donation Centers) Recycling Centers

Implementation Details • Resources • Team of volunteers to collect e-waste in the community • Storage place in Sai center/devotee home to sort reusable/ recyclable waste • Have at least 1 volunteer from each city • Collection bins at Sai centers • Bins to collect smaller electronic items like cell phones, and printer cartridges • Organize e-waste collection drive periodically • For example: Do a cell phone collection drive • Spread the word at your work place, school, friends and family.
