Where have we been so far? • Our Creator, wirerer, and giver of creational gifts? • El Elohym • Is the Most Highest of all • El Elyon • Who do we declare our Master? • Adonai • Who could already sees our need • El Roi • Who is all powerful, more than sufficient, and nurtures us through every challenge? • El Shaddai

Who has already helped you in countless ways? • Jehovah Ezer • Who is able to provide all our needs? • Jehovah Jirah • Who heals us from the inside out? • Jehovah Rapha • Who is my shepherd, who has taken personal responsibility for all I need • Jehovah Rohi • Who is the Lord over all hosts • Jehovah Sabaoth • The Lord who sets me apart and sanctifies me • Jehovah Mekedeshem

  4. You got any Amalekites? • Exodus 17:8-16 • Where’d they come from, why are they fighting them, why the whole staff thing?

  5. The Amalekites • Esau – Eliphaz – Amalek • Why was Esau such a bad guy? • Genesis 25:27-34 • And Amalek? • Deut 25:17-19 • Disobedience strengthened the power of the Amalekites – Numbers 14:42-45 • So why will the Lord have war with Amalek from generation to generation?

And the staff thing? • Exodus 4:20 – it is called the Staff of Elohym • Exodus 7:9 – It becomes the serpent and devours the serpents of the magicians • Exodus 7:17 – turns the Nile to blood • Exodus 8:5 – releases the frogs on the land • Exodus 8:16 – turns the dust to gnats • Exodus 9:23 – thunder, hail, and fire • Exodus 10:13 – stirs up the locust • Exodus 14:16 – divides the Red Sea • Exodus 17:5,6 – strikes the rock and releases water

Look at the symbolism • What did Aaron and Hur represent? • The function of the church today – Heb 12:12, Prov 27:17 • What did the rock represent? • The rock of our salvation – Matt 16:18 • What did the staff represent? • Hands lifted high, elevating the power of God • What about Joshua? • Set apart and trained up

  8. The banner, the rally point • The banner was a long pole with a flag on it • It was used to gather the people together when there was an emergency • It would have been used to coordinate an attack and a battle • It was a key component to winning any victory

  9. Our banner, our victory • Thomas Jonathan Jackson • There stands Jackson like a stone wall! Rally behind the Virginians! • He became the reason for the victory of the First Battle of Bull Run – why? • Because he stood as a banner and rally point • JESUS CAN BE OUR BANNER AND OUR RALLY POINT!

  10. Some alternative rally points • Doing good things for the sake of good things • Running to friends about issues, instead of to God • All the self help boloney that is available (sorry Oprah and Dr Phil) • Religious “business”

Choose the one true rally point • God told Moses “I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven” • The Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation • Sin will always attack when you are tired and weary and straggling at the back • Jesus won the victory by sacrificing Himself to the cross, so that you would have a rally point
