Binary ionic compounds (with Transition Metals) Stock Vs Classic By Stephen Morrison Jordan Nauss
Introduction in the ways of the binary master. Okie dokie kids, my name Cpt. Smileyface and im here to tell you the ways of the ionic compounds!!!! …. Sooo if you were looking for the “how to be a ninja in ten easy steps” class WRONG PLACE!!... But now that you’re here you might as well stick around and see what I have to say ok?
Rules – First step on the way of the binary master. Name Making For B.I.C (Binary Ionic Compounds) Rule one. The first element in the compound is ALWAYS a metal Rule two. The second element (non – metal) is ALWAYS named as an ion. The suffix becomes – ide Rule three. Then take the two parts of the compound and put them together. Ex. NaCl = Sodium Chloride CaO = Calcium Oxide Mg3P2 = Magnesium Phosphide
Rules – Step two on your journey of binary enlightenment. Name to formula – follow these three steps: D Step one – remove the suffix and leave the elements names as they once were. Step two – change the elements to there shortened forms ( sodium = Na). Step three – add sub script as needed to fill the outer shells of each. Ex. Beryllium fluoride = BeF2 Potassium iodide = KI Calcium Astatide = CaAt
Training in the ways of the binary master. Suckers… Here are some practice questions • Formula to name- :D • NaI = ??? • K2Se = ??? • MgO = ??? • MgTe = ??? • FrCl = ??? • Name to formula – :D • Lithium Phosphide = ??? • Strontium Nitride = ??? • Francium Fluoride = ??? • Cesium Iodide = ??? • Rubidium Oxide = ????
You are now a MASTER!!!!... :D YAY!!!! See? I told you sitting through this random lecture like thing would help you in the end … and if not… well…. Err… SUCKS TO BE YOU :D SMILE OR ELSE!!!!! YOU JUST LOST THE GAME!
