What is Constitutional Monarchy? • A government system which has a king or queen with an elected parliament
Characteristics • The Queen cannot make or pass legislation • It must remain politically neutral. • On almost all matters The Queen acts on the advice of ministers. • It’s opposed to an absolute monarchy (Where a monarch holds absolute power)
Strengths • it separates out ceremonial from actual government functions • official duties of the Head of State are separate from party politics. • it provides stability and continuity
