  1. Clarifications on APSD Mathilde Benveniste Avaya Labs – Research Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research

  2. Reason for Change According to Section 11.2.1.4, • A non-AP QSTA may transition out of the power-save mode, and then back in, by changing the value of power management bit accordingly. • The QAP uses the power-save delivery mechanism currently in effect for a non-AP QSTA to deliver frames to the non-AP QSTA when it is operating in power-save mode. There are sections in TGe D6.0 that contradict the above. They must be corrected. Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research

  3. Changes – 1 The next-to-last paragraph of Section 11.2.1.4 contains the sentence: “When a QSTA sets the APSD subfield for any TSPEC to 1, all traffic to the station shall be delivered using APSD.” Proposed change The above sentence must be qualified as follows: “When a QSTA sets the APSD subfield for any TSPEC to 1, all traffic to the station shall be delivered using APSDif the station is operating in PS mode” _________________________________ Note: Text in red italicsunderlined is added. Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research

  4. Changes – 2 Section 11.2.1.5 contains the sentence: b) MSDUs, or management frames destined for STAs in the Active mode or have not indicated their usage of APSD, shall be directly transmitted. Proposed change The text in bold italics above must be deleted. The sentence should read: b) MSDUs, or management frames, destined for STAs in the Active mode (or have not indicated their usage of APSD,) shall be directly transmitted. ________________________ Note: Text in blue italics in parentheses is deleted. Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research

  5. Motion Modify text in sub-clause 11.2.1.4 as follows: When a QSTA sets the APSD subfield for any TSPEC to 1, all traffic to the station shall be delivered using APSDwhen the station is operating in PS mode. Modify text in sub-clause 11.2.1.5 as follows: b) MSDUs, or management frames, destined for STAs in the Active mode (or have not indicated their usage of APSD,) shall be directly transmitted. __________________________________________ Note: Text in red italicsunderlined is added. Text in blue italics in parentheses is deleted. Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research

  6. Reason for Change According to Section 7.1.3.5.2, • The HC uses the EOSP subfield to indicate the end of SP in APSD. The More Data Bit is used to indicate whether there are MSDUs buffered at the AP at the end of the SP. According to Section 11.2.1.5, • The QAP shall use EOSP=1 to indicate the end of SP in APSD. The More Data Bit shall be used simply to indicate whether there is data still buffered in the AP at the end of the SP. There are sections in TGe D6.0 that contradict the above. They must be corrected. Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research

  7. Change (Comment 179) The next-to-last paragraph of Section 11.2.1.5 (g) contains the sentence: “The QAP considers APSD QSTA to be in Active state after it has sent a QoS +CF-Ack, with the More Data bit set, to the APSD QSTA. If necessary the QAP may generate an extra QoS Null frame, with the more data subfield set to 0 and the EOSP set to 1. Proposed change The above sentence must be changed as follows: “The QAP considers APSD QSTA to be in Active state after it has sent a QoS +CF-Ack, (with the More Data bit set) the EOSP set to 0, to the APSD QSTA. If necessary the QAP may generate an extra QoS Null frame, with (the more data subfield set to 0 and) the EOSP subfield set to 1.” _________________________________ Note: Text in red italicsunderlined is added. Text in blue italics in parentheses is deleted. Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research

  8. Motion Modify text in sub-clause 11.2.1.5 as follows: “The QAP considers APSD QSTA to be in Active state after it has sent a QoS +CF-Ack with (the More Data bit set) the EOSP set to 0, to the APSD QSTA. If necessary the QAP may generate an extra QoS Null frame, with (the more data subfield set to 0 and) the EOSP subfield set to 1.” __________________________________________ Note: Text in red italicsunderlined is added. Text in blue italics in parentheses is deleted. Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research

  9. Change According to Section 7.2.3.15, • The APSD subfield is set to 0 if the station does not engage in power saving. Proposed change The above sentence must be changed as follows: “The APSD subfield is set to 0 if the station does not engage in (power saving) automatic power saving delivery.” _________________________________ Note: Text in red italicsunderlined is added. Text in blue italics in parentheses is deleted. Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research

  10. Motion Modify text in sub-clause 7.2.3.15 as follows: “The APSD subfield is set to 0 if the station does not engage in (power saving) automatic power saving delivery.” __________________________________________ Note: Text in red italicsunderlined is added. Text in blue italics in parentheses is deleted. Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research

  11. Reason for Change A power-saving station need not establish an APSD TSPEC for all its traffic • If the traffic is a mix of BE data and periodic traffic stream, an APSD TSPEC may be submitted for the traffic stream only • The buffered BE data burst may be delivered by the legacy mechanisms -- e.g. with PS Polls or by the station temporarily transitioning to Active mode There are sections in TGe D6.0 that contradict the above. They must be corrected. Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research

  12. Change According to Section 11.2.1.4, When a QSTA sets the APSD subfield for any TSPEC to 1, all traffic to the station shall be delivered using APSD. Proposed change Delete above statement. “When a QSTA sets the APSD subfield for any TSPEC to 1, all traffic to the station shall be delivered using APSD.” _________________________________ Note: Text in red italicsunderlined is added. Text in blue italics in parentheses is deleted. Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research

  13. Motion Modify text in sub-clause 11.2.1.4 as follows: “When a QSTA sets the APSD subfield for any TSPEC to 1, all traffic to the station shall be delivered using APSD.” __________________________________________ Note: Text in red italicsunderlined is added. Text in blue italics in parentheses is deleted. Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research

  14. Reason for Change According to Section 11.2.1.5, The algorithm to manage this buffering [buffering of frames at the AP] shall not favor the transmission of buffered frames destined for non-AP QSTAs using APSD mechanism over the transmission of equal or higher-priority frames destined for non-AP QSTAs not using APSD. There are sections in TGe D6.0 that contradict the above. They must be corrected. Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research

  15. Change (Comment 146) According to Section 11.2.1.4, An unscheduled SP begins when the QAP receives any frame from the non-AP QSTA and ends after the QAP has attempted to transmit all frames destined for the non-AP QSTA. Proposed change The above sentence must be changed as follows: “An unscheduled SP begins when the QAP receives any frame from the non-AP QSTA and ends after the QAP has attempted to transmit (all frames)at least one MPDU destined for the non-AP QSTA if at least one is buffered”. _________________________________ Note: Text in red italicsunderlined is add ed. Text in blue italics in parentheses is deleted. Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research

  16. Motion Modify text in sub-clause 11.2.1.4 as follows: “An unscheduled SP begins when the QAP receives any frame from the non-AP QSTA and ends after the QAP has attempted to transmit (all frames)at least one MPDU destined for the non-AP QSTA, if at least one is buffered.” __________________________________________ Note: Text in red italicsunderlined is added. Text in blue italics in parentheses is deleted. Mathilde Benveniste, Avaya Labs -- Research
