  4. Design Changes • Greenhouse/Pressure System • Molding tool design • Thermal Shield/Structure • Keyed aluminum shaft and aluminum sleeve • New assembly order • Electronics/Software • Trimpot

  5. Molding Tool • New design allows for the use of a furnace instead of internal heater • Shelled out to reduce heating time • Rolling method is done by hand on top of grooved plate

  6. Keyed Shaft and Sleeve • Keyed aluminum shaft to eliminate the need for welding • Key • 0.1’’ x 0.2’’ x 0.3’’ • Aluminum shaft • Depth: 0.1’’ • Aluminum sleeve • Depth: 0.2’’

  8. Greenhouse/Pressure System • Molding tool is complete • Tested for functionality: • Control valve • Regulator and CO2 tank

  9. Thermal Shield/Structure • Completed petals 1 - 5 using new epoxy • Machined parts for petals 6 - 10 • Machined electronics box parts

  14. Current Issues • Laser cutter availability/reliability • Solution: sand edges for even mating surface • Outdoor testing -Solution: car inverter for power supply and data acquisition system

  15. To Be Completed: Greenhouse/Pressure System • Molding plate (3/19/04) • Shape Kapton for deployable greenhouse (3/31/04) • Construct greenhouse around acrylic rings (4/2/04)

  16. To Be Completed: Thermal Shield/Structure • Finish constructing thermal shield (3/19/04) • Machine and construct base structure (3/28/04) • Machine aluminum shaft and sleeve (3/31/04)

  18. Integration • Fasten greenhouse to mounting box (3/28 – 3/31) • Assemble final structure (3/28 – 4/2) • Integrate pressure and power sources with electronics package (3/28 – 4/2)
