Developing Dribbling & Running with the ball • Skill • Wave practice – Reds have to run with the ball into the opposing half and play out to outside reds. • Once outside reds receive the ball they rotate with the passes and join the pitch for a 2v1. • Defenders have to try and win the ball. If they do they must run the ball over one of the outside lines on their half to get a point. • Once they have won the ball – the attack starts from the opposite side, with the attacker who lost the ball joining opposite line. • Add competition – what defenders can get the most points? Who can run with the ball to the other side the most? • Set challenges for players to recognise when to run with the ball – and if they cant what else they can do with the ball. 1 3 • Technique • Start with blue players dribbling the ball in the box. All players without footballs have to move around outside of box. If they run across box to opposite side they receive 2 points. If they run to side next to them, they get 1 point. Blue players have to block of the red players. • Rotate the teams after they have had a turn each. • Red Players have a ball each and have to now try to get from one side of the box to another. Looking for a space to run with the ball and a space to dribble. • Players are now not allowed 1 or more players on each side. • Set challenges for players. • Add competition • SSG • Separate groups into two teams with 2 feeders • Red’s v Blues – normal principles of play. Remind players of what we have been working on. • Highlight players who Recognise when and when not to run with the ball. • Players must RWB over the end line to score a point. Feeders restart the game.
