  2. AMERICA IS CHANGING • 1996 36% of all U.S. population growth was the result of immigration. • 1994-1997 42% of the increase in homeownership was due to minorities and immigrants. • 1997 - 17% of all homeownership is now minorities!

  3. FASTEST GROWING GROUP ON THE NET • The number of non-English speaking users has grown from less than 10% to nearly 45%. • In 1995, there were 4 to 5 million out of a total of 40 million users. Now there are 80 to 81 million out of 180 - 182 million users!

  4. FOREIGN SUBSIDIARIES IN U.S. • Employ 1 in 10 Americans in manufacturing. • Invested $84 billion in plants and equipment. • Exported $137 billion of merchandise. • Paid $10.1 billion in taxes. • Donated $512 million to charities!

  5. FOREIGN SUBSIDIARIES IN U.S.(Continued) • Their average job pays $42,000 or 13% higher than American average. • Since 1980 these jobs have grown 5 times faster than American companies. • Of the100 largest Foreign companies Americans own 35% of their stock!

  6. AMERICA IS BEING GLOBALIZED • Americans think of BMW as German but they have 12 plants in U.S. • We think of a Burger King as pure American, but it is owned by a British conglomerate. • Our real estate debt and equity funding is coming from outside the U.S.!

  8. Missouri’s International Real Estate Activities Because our Missouri Economic Development Department had numerous foreign offices, Realtors did not have to reinvent the “wheel”!

  9. MAR’s International Strategies • View international program as part of MAR’s commercial and economic development, government relations, public relations, and fair housing activities. • Promote real estate study tours to targeted countries in conjunction with State!

  10. MAR’s International Strategies(continued) • Produce multi-language guide to purchasing and leasing real property in Missouri. • Sponsor CIPS courses and encourage Realtors to join CIPS Network, and attend MAR/NAR meetings!

  11. BUSINESS CULTURES ARE CONVERGING But we still have a long way to go to get it right!
