When a Rural Transit Accident/Incident Occurs • What to you do? • What are your responsibilities? • What happens after the incident?
The Florida’s Department of Transportation in conjunction with the National Center for Transit Research (NCTR) heard this call for help by Florida’s rural transit providers and responded.
Florida’s Response to Rural Providers • In 2005 FDOT funded the development of a tracking system that would help rural transit providers with a tool to track, trend and analyze their accidents/ incidents • Tracking this data is a requirement under Florida Statute 1490.004

The Florida Model • Today both large and rural transit systems throughout Florida are utilizing and customizing the system. • They are tracking & analyze their data • They are in compliance with FS1490.004
Bus Incident Investigation Training Video • In 2006, NCTR and FDOT partnered again to provide technical assistance and support to rural transit system, by providing them with a video on the rules & responsibilities of accident /incident investigation
