What is it? • Infection of the nervous system • Deadly bacteria: Clostridium tetani • Lives in soil, dirt, saliva, and dust • Through deep wound/cut
How dangerous is it? Tetanus is avoidable! Take care of it, or suffer the consequences! High fatality rate! 10% of reported cases Rate: 8
What happens? • Enters wound/cut • Burns or broken skin • Unleashes poison-tetanospasm • Contaminated wound-bacteria multiplies
…and then what happens? • Jaw muscles tighten, “Lockjaw” • Seizures • Headaches • Painful muscle stiffness • Spasm of vocal chords • Muscle spasms • Break in bones • Death
I don’t want this! Victims? How to avoid! • EVERYONE! • Both children and adults can be effected • Go get vaccinated! • Tetanus booster every 10 years
