VOICE PROJECTION • ability to project his/her voice and the use of different voice intonations according to the characters in the stories told.
THE THREE KEY COMPONENTS OF A POWERFUL SOUND • personality, • passion, and • strong vocal physique. * The first two components are achieved by being yourself and by being clear about your intention. The third, through awareness and practice.
TIPS ON HOW TO PROJECT YOUR VOICE • Align your body correctly -relax -stand straight-do not bend forward; do not bend your neck by looking downwards
2. Check your breathing - If you only able to take small breaths, you are likely to produce a ‘small’ sound but if you are able to take some big breaths, then it is likely that you will be able to produce a ‘big’ sound’.
3. Make sure that your voice resonates well a. Your voice originates at your vocal cords and then resonates through your chest, throat, and head as it comes out of your mouth. b. “Open up" the chest, throat, and head cavities to allow the voice to resonate 4. Expand the shape of your mouth a. Relax and open your mouth wide, so you can produce a ‘big’ sound.
DICTION • Apart from projecting your voice, you should ensure that appropriate diction where words are enunciated carefully. • Enunciation means the formation of words, including - right vocal shape to the vowels - right form to the consonants into finished speech • The story could be brought out and has a flavour when you enunciate carefully such as humorous, scary, happy, frightened and etc.
CONCEPT AND DEFINITION • The craft of storytelling is knowing a. which information your reader needs. b. when to provide it in order to prolong suspense. c. interest and eagerness to keep reading • Diction can be define a choices of word used by a writer to write a story.
WHAT IS DICTION? • Style of speaking or writing as dependent upon choice of words. • Also known as the accent, intonation and speech sound quality manifested by individual speaker.
DICTION IN STORY TELLING • Diction is very important feature need to be considered by teacher before selecting a story for young learners. • Teacher have to determine STYLES and TONE of the story because it reflect the use of it. • TONE, PITCH, VOLUME and the SPEAKING RATE of words changes according to how we feel
For example If we were angry then the volume be likely to be raised as is the pitch, the tone will be harsh and the rate the words come from our mouth will probably be much faster than usual.
THE IMPORTANCE • Slowly deliver the story using the right diction according to the story deliver. • Always keep pupils interest when teaching reading or read the tory for them. • Teacher can deliver the moral values to student directly from the story.
POISE • A dignified, self-confident manner or self-possession • Some people enjoy being in the so-called ‘limelight’ but for some people being in front of a group of people could be a very nervous experience. • The confidence which lies within the storyteller also demonstrates his poise.
A STORYTELLER MUST REMAIN: • Relaxed while presenting a story • Look and sound confident • Be in control • Constantly making eye contacts with his/her listeners.
GOOD POISE IS… • Back should be straight and head should be held high. This is so that you can breathe well, project your voice, and demonstrate clear diction. • Sit or stand to tell your story, but you should never slump.
