Congress (Passes Laws) LegislativeBranch • Can override the President’s veto • Approves treaties and presidential appointments • Can impeach and remove President and other high officials • Creates lower federal courts • Appropriates money • Prints coins and money • Raises and supports the armed forces • Can declare war • Regulates foreign and interstate trade • Makes laws Made up of the House of Representatives and Senate.

Executive branch • Proposes laws • Can veto laws • Signs off on laws • Negotiates foreign treaties • Serves as commander in chief of the armed forces • Appoints federal judges, ambassadors and other high officials • Can grant pardon to federal offenders • Elected every four yeas • Can serve two terms maximum The President, Vice President and Cabinet (Carries Out Laws)

  4. Judicial Branch • Can declare laws unconstitutional • Can declare executive actions unconstitutional • Appointed by the president • Nine justices • Can overturn rulings by other judges Supreme Court and Other Federal Courts (Interprets Laws)
