Akkadian Empire • Sargon built the world’s first empire • Sargon took over his own ruler then conquered others • Sargon ruled the Empire for over 56 years • After Sargon died his empire lasted over 200 years
Babylonian Empire • The kings of Babylonia created a taxation system • Hammurabi put together a set of laws for Babylonia that later became known as the Hammurabi Code • The code of Hammurabi consisted of 282 laws • The laws covered matters such as private property and military service
Hittites and Kassites • Hittites invented Chariots • Hittites stole the riches of Babylon and then left • Kassites conquered Babylon • Kassites ruled Babylon from 1595 B.C to 1000 B.C.
Assyrian Empire • The Assyrians created battering rams • The Assyrians learned to drive chariots from the Hittites • Sennacherib was their ruler • The Assyrians created the world’s first paved road
Neo Babylonian Empire • Nebuchadnezzar was one of the best new rulers • He built a major palace, several temples, and a Ziggurat • He also built a garden which came to be called The Hanging Gardens • Nebuchadnezzar’s son Nabonidus did not last long on the throne; he was forced to surrender his land to Persia
Summary • I’ve learned a lot about how there were different rulers for Mesopotamia and how each ruler built different things.
