MAI – leading aerospace university 1930 – Foundationfor the purpose to prepare specialists for designbureaus and aviation industry plants (ranging from the structural design of wings, fuselages, landing gears, and propulsion systems to the technology and economics ofproduction). Since • 1960’s–personnel training inthe field of aeronautics,astronautics and space engineering. • Since 1993 – Status of Technical University. • Since • 2009 – Category“National Research University”. MAI Mission The main mission of MAI is continuous training of highly qualified personnel, conducting research works with a view to ensuring availability of personnel and innovation research for the purpose of steady development of aviation, rocket and space industries on the basis of the integration of science, education and industry.

MAI today • 12 faculties, 2 institutes (as faculties) and 4 branches; • over 160 000 alumni; • over 20 000 students; • 30 Bachelor degree program, 7 Master degree programsand 9 engineering degree programs, 49 post-graduate programs; • over 2000 faculty staff including 18 full members and corresponding members of the RAS, over 450 D.Sc., professors and over 1100 Ph.D., associate professors; • the industrial park: unique complex of laboratories, 7 resource centers, 12 research and education centers, multiple access centre, over 20 student design bureaus, experimental plant, spacecraft control centre, own aerodrome and other facility units of the innovative and social university infrastructure; • the only University in Russia,having a Certificate for development of aeronautical engineering.

  7. Student targeted training Conduction competitionsfor pupils, organizationresearch and aeromodellingclubs at schools. Professional and practical training at the enterprises. Contractual group of targeted training students, and individual contract training. More than 100 agreements with enterprises of the aerospace industry that take students for practice and hire graduates. There are 25 basic departments in MAI. Writing course and diploma projects at the enterprises. 7

The international standards of engineering education integrated at MAI • Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate • International initiative for engineering education • 12 universities (12 from Russia). MAI entered in 2012. • MAI standard compliance with CDIO: • - connection “MAI – industry”; • - end-to-end training; • - multidisciplinary resource centers equipped with high-tech and innovative equipment and modern information technologies; • - improving skills of faculty staff. • All the 12 CDIO standards are realized particularly in each MAI faculties: • Since 2013 pilot projects of standards CDIO implementation to the educational programs of the following faculties have been introduced: • №1 “Aeronautical Engineering”; • №2 “Engines for Flying Vehicles”; • №3 “Control Systems, Informatics and Electropower Systems”. 11

Unmanned aerial vehicles Multirotor platforms of helicopter type of different function Aerostatic platform based on hybrid balloon “Kolibri” (kite balloon) • the rise of various useful load (equipment for panoramic video surveillance and video shooting, aerial photography, meteorological observation, atmospheric pollution control, for scientific research and etc.); • using for rapid rise of advertizing and for video filming at public events (especially for one-day events, when usage of big balloons is inexpedient). • using as a universal carrier for any useful load; • solution of scientific and applied tasks.

Microsatellite 601-X-1 • a cube with sides just 10 cm; • contains an electronic database and service systems for equipment, data processing and transmission of this data to Fight Control Center; • control system is based on intelligent algorithms of technical vision; • the body shell is with variable tightness; • applied element base is an industrial used electronics. • possibility of connection for 2-3 devices into larger one.
