  1. Simultaneous Equations

  2. Think about these two equations y=2x + 1 y=3x -4 There are an infinite number of coordinates that we can make using these equations But only 1 which we can make with both of them (10,26) (2,5) (1,-1) (10,21) ? (3,7) (2,2) (6,13) (4,8)

  3. Today we will find out what that coordinate is by plotting the equations and seeing where the lines intersect Step 1: Plot the lines Step 2: Find the coordinate of the intersection (5,11) 11 5

  4. The only two number which fit these equations are x=5 and y=11 y=2x + 1 y=3x -4 (10,26) (2,5) (1,-1) (10,21) (5,11) (3,7) (2,2) (6,13) (4,8)

  5. Questions Solve these simultaneous equations graphically (draw x axis to 10 and y axis to 15): • y=2x + 4 and y=3x -1 • y=5x - 3 and y=4x + 1 • y=x + 7 and y=2x + 4 • y=2x + 2 and y=6-3x • y=10 – 2xand y=12-3x • (5,14) • (2,7) • (3,10) • (1,3) • (2,6)
