  3. Video Story: Chinese Desi Style! • Have you ever tried South Asian Food? (For example, curry, samosa, etc, though it was in local Chinese restaurants) Where did you have it? How did it taste differently from Chinese food? • Other than churches and Buddhist or Taoist temples, do you know any religious places in Hong Kong? (click the image to view videos)

For example, most Sikhs and Hindu are Indians: how about Buddhists and Christians?

Case Study II: Let’s Party! • Recall the different food cultures as seen in Chinese Desi Style!, • Are there are some other dietary requirementsof other cultures? • Cultural diversity: • Diversity is about accepting differences, while there exists majority and minorities • Cultural diversity is about accepting differences among different cultures, for example people of different skin colours, reglions, belief, etc. Cultural diversity makes our country richer by making it a more interesting place in which to live. • Further to the adoption of UNESCO’s Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity in November 2001, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed 21 May as World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

Case Study II: Let’s Party! • On the occasion of World Day for Cultural Diversity – 21 May, the school is going to organize a multicultural party, to which a range of Hong Kong-based South Asian people such as Bangladeshis, Pakestanis, Indians and Nepaleses will be invited. Let’s celebrate cultural diversity in the party! • Considering the different dietary requirements, what kind of food can we prepare for the party? • Make a food list! • How to serve the food? With chopsticks, folk, dishes or plate? • Any decoration to show our respect to other cultures? Can you think of any activities in the programme that can help us understand other cultures? • Where can we go to observe or research the cultures of these EM communities?

  12. Case Study II: Let’s Party! • Do you think even people who have different cultures and customs still share the culture and identity of Hong Kong? Why? • How can we understand different EM cultures in Hong Kong and promote cultural diversity?

  13. A World of Differences • Look for a South Asian restaurant in your neighbourhood area. Have a meal there with your friends or family and explore the difference between Chinese food and South Asian food. • Check out one of the temples or churches; observe the similarity and differences between Chinese and their customs. • Do you know where does the South Asian community cluster in Hong Kong? Visit Chung King Mansion or other places you know, have a taste of the real life of EM community in Hong Kong. ? !
