  1. The Biblical Words Lesson Three

  2. “What is really important in the world of doublespeak is the ability to lie, whether knowingly or unconsciously, and to get away with it; and the ability to use lies and choose and shape facts selectively, blocking out those that don’t fit an agenda or program.” (Herron)

  3. The tragic erasure by language • Language is a critical factor in the foundations of civilization. • In order to change civilization one has to change the language (words). • If one is permitted to redefine term then a redirection is legitimized.

  4. Redirection redefined God’s “anger” The Postmodernist decided to redefine God’s anger and turn it into an emotion with a totally different application than that found in the Bible. “You turn things around!” (Isaiah 29:16)

  5. The reality and strategy of words • Proponents of change have to change the vocabulary (Acts 17:23-31; 1 Thessalonians 1:7-10; 1 Corinthians 8:5, 6). • The critical nature of the process of inspiration (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:16-21; 1 Corinthians 2:1-5)

  6. Changing God’s Words One cannot ignore with impunity the words of God.

  7. Words can be… • Manipulated and become weapons • Instruments to take civilizations from God’s revealed commands

  8. Many today reject the words of Inspiration for the words of “worldly wisdom.” They are deluded in thinking they have a superior wisdom and a more enlightened understanding.

  9. The Perverted Strategy of Words A violent wresting of biblical language Not a new problem (2 Peter 3:16) “Wrest” means “to wrench, to torture (by the rack) and figuratively it means to pervert.”

  10. Perversion of biblical language • In order to erase the supernatural attributes and exclusiveness of Jehovah God, the godless must change the biblical words describing the sovereign God. • These devotees to evil want to change the very foundation of devotion to the Almighty God. • Hence they must alter the language of the Bible!

  11. Evil’s Perverted Language • The only way this evil objective can be accomplished is by changing the words so that people will continue speaking the words BUT such are now redefined and understood in an entirely different way. • The strategic objective is to pervert the meaning of the words and thereby change the language.

  12. When the Bible is changed… The greatest tragedy is observing how the Postmodern Period’s redefining of words and phrases has invaded and infected the Lord’s Church. Such has rendered the Church in today’s culture unable to follow the instruction “Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God” (1 Peter 4:11).

  13. Plastic Words • Refers to a class of terms which are slippery, vague, and modular • Compared to plastic Lego blocks because these words have become combinable and interchangeable to present different messaging. They are used over and over to construct new concepts to explain and justify plans from a selfish perspective.

  14. Plastic Words • The construction and meaning of plastic words are to be “inventive exercises thinking ‘outside the box’” • Stripped of their specific meanings; used to displace more precise words with words that sound legitimate but actually blur meaning and disable common language.

  15. The Impact of Plastic Words When applied to religious concepts these plastic words present the mechanism for legitimizing actions, behaviors, and commands that the prophet Isaiah would claim “turn upside down” the revealed will of God! Isaiah 5:18-21

  16. Confusion and Vagueness • “But if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought” (Orwell). • The Postmodernist objective seeks to corrupt the thought processes rooted in the Bible. • He wants to change the thinking and thus change behavior.

  17. Confusion and Vagueness • Encourage people to express their individualism as superior to established teachings • Challenge traditional teaching so creativity rather than accepting the truth results

  18. The same texts are read and studied… • But are now given a better application to cultural context • But opposite conclusions are reached • Used to repudiate all previous conclusions • Has been “rediscovered” by the individual’s “creativity”

  19. The Results… This confused specificity of Bible commands brings chaos regarding the Church and biblical commands. Today’s “plastic words” are terrorizing the Lord’s Church

  20. Doublespeak… • Embodies an ancient evil • Presents words as true when in reality they are lies • A system of mental cheating

  21. Doublespeak… “What is really important in the world of doublespeak is the ability to lie, whether knowingly or unconsciously, and to get away with it; and the ability to use lies and choose and shape facts selectively, blocking out those that don’t fit an agenda or program” (Herron).

  22. Doublespeak… Double speak is evasive, ambiguous language that is intended to deceive or confuse; it is intentionally deceiving language. Not an outright lie or a tactful euphemism, but systematic use of ambiguous, evasive words and sentence structures to say one thing but mean something else.”

  23. Postmodernism has not erased God’s anger • The words of the Scripture cannot be perverted • These inspired words teach clearly that God possess anger

  24. Terms of God’s emotions • Indignation (Psalm 69:24; Psalm 119:53; Jeremiah 15:17; Psalm 78:49; 85:4; 102:10; Isaiah 30:27; Jeremiah 21:5; 50:25; Nahum 1:6). • Wrath (Revelation 16:19; 19:15; Hebrews 10:27; Job 41:10; Jeremiah 10:10) • Anger (Mark 3:5; Numbers 22:22; Judges 2:12) • Rage (Habakkuk 3:8)

  25. Terms of God’s emotions • Fury (Isaiah 34:2; 63:3-6; Deuteronomy 9:19; Jeremiah 42:18; Hebrews 10:26, 27) • Tribulation (Romans 2:9; Revelation 2:22) • Anguish (Romans 2:9; 8:35; 2 Corinthians 6:4; Psalm 107:26) • Righteousness (Revelation 16:7; 19:11; Genesis 18:25)

  26. Absolute Take Aways • First, words have specific meaning. • Second, words used in the Bible were deliberately chosen by God to communicate specific concepts. • Third, the words of the Bible teach that God’s anger is a reality and cannot be disregarded.

  27. Absolute Take Aways • Fourth, when the Bible states that God is angry we must accept the fact that God becomes angry and that anger will punish disobedience to the divine commands!

  28. Absolute Take Aways • Fifth, from the word study above the words of this Psalm should be somberly understood: “Worship the Lord with reverence and rejoice with trembling. Do homage to the Son that He not become angry and you perish in the way, for His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!” (Psalm 2:11, 12).
