  3. Writing Algebraic Expressions • Variable • Symbol usually a letter that represents one or more numbers • Ex: n, a, x • Algebraic Expression • Mathematical phrase that can include numbers, variables, and operation symbols

  4. Writing Algebraic Expressions • Addition • More than, sum • Ex: Seven more than n n+7 • Subtraction • Difference, minus, less than • Ex: Difference of n and 7 n-7

  5. Writing Algebraic Expressions • Multiplication • Product, times • Ex: the product of seven and n 7n or 7*n or 7(n) • Division • Quotient, divided by • Ex: quotient of n and 7 n/7 or n ÷ 7
