  1. Lesson 4.3Graphing Horizontal & Vertical Lines Mr. Beltz & Mr. Sparks

  2. Horizontal • Think Horizon…left & right.

  3. Vertical • Think of Mr. Beltz’s Vertical Jump in basketball. (Up & Down)

  4. Linear equations Review • All linear equations can be written in the form: Ax + By = C

  5. Horizontal Lines Ax + By = C When A = 0 The equation reduces to By = C This results in a HORIZONTAL LINE (Example 1)

  6. Vertical Lines Ax + By = C When B = 0 The equation reduces to Ax = C This results in a VERTICAL LINE (Example 2)

  7. Summary • If y = b Horizontal Line • If x = a Vertical Line

  8. Writing an Equation of a line. • The graph is a vertical line. The x-coordinate is always -2. • The equation of the line is x= -2 (Example 3a)

  9. Write an Equation of a line. • The graph is a horizontal line. The y-coordinate is always 4. • The equation of the line is y=4. (Example 3b)

  10. Practice • Complete #1-8 on pages 216-217.
