Matt 25:1-13 Kingdom Series The Foolish and Wise Virgins
Introduction • Kingdom series continued • Last message on the alertness of the entrusted servants • Today’s message is for all: be alert
Matt 25:1-13 Then shall the kingdom of Heaven be likened to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. (2) And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. (3) The foolish ones took their lamps, but took no oil with them. (4) But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. (5) While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. (6) And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom comes! Go out to meet him. (7) Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.
Matt 25:1-13 (Continued) (8) And the foolish said to the wise, Give us some of your oil, for our lamps have gone out. (9) But the wise answered, saying, No, lest there be not enough for us and you. But rather go to those who sell, and buy for yourselves. (10) And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came. And they who were ready went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut. (11) Afterwards the other virgins came also, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. (12) But he answered and said, Truly I say to you, I do not know you. (13) Therefore watch, for you do not know either the day or the hour in which the Son of Man comes.
Lessons of the Ten Virgins • Complacent • Lacking accountability • Lacking true faith • Taking advantage of assured salvation
The Rapture 1Th 4:15-17 For we say this to you by the Word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord shall not go before those who are asleep. (16) For the Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ shall rise first. (17) Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. And so we shall ever be with the Lord.
The Lord Will come, Don’t Get Left Behind • Time will run out! • No time to make it up • No chances to be good & faithful • You will see others being lifted • You will be left with desperation and regret!
Application: Meritocracy • Meritocracy: • A way of working in which the worthy are chosen or rewarded • Our God is a God of meritocracy • It is only natural that we appreciate competent people • God also appreciate competent disciples
Application: Be perfect as the Father is • You do have Salvation, but not of your merit • Yet, God does not raise spoiled kids • God demands his children to be Christ-like • Your attitude and value • You living and doing consistent with being as a child of God • Therefore be perfect, even as your Father in Heaven is perfect. Mat 5:48
Conclusions Mat 24:36-42 But of that day and hour no one knows, no, not the angels of Heaven, but only My Father. (37) But as the days of Noah were, so shall be the coming of the Son of Man. (38) For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered into the ark. (39) And they did not know until the flood came and took them all away. So also will be the coming of the Son of Man. (40) Then two shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. (41) Two shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. (42) Therefore watch; for you do not know what hour your Lord comes.
Conclusions • Be watchful, be ready • Live in the now… for the future • Be a competent, five star, disciple
