Childhood • Nicholas was the second of three children. • Spent a lot of time moving with his family while his dad finished college • They were very poor • He graduated his high school as valedictorian • got a full track scholarship to Notre Dame, where at the end of track season he got an achilles tendon injury, which he then started writing his first book while he was sitting out injured
Why/How Sparks became an author • In his first year at Notre Dame he got an achilles injury at the end of the track season. While he was injured he started to write, which soon turned into more than one book. He states "I enjoy, and have always enjoyed, reading, and my ability to write and interest in a writing career grew out of that." He also says "I don't live to write, I write to live."
Facts • Sparks wrote two books before the Notebook, but he will never publish them • 8 of his books have been turned into movies • he has 18 books total • The Best of Me comes out October 17, 2014 • The Longest Ride comes out in February of 2015
