  12. IQ, EI or Personality • Intelligence Quotient – a person’s ability to learn and reason usually identified using problem solving tests Example: If my mental age is determined to be 45 and I am 30 years of age then the resulting fraction of 1.5 is multiplied by 100 to achieve an IQ of 150.

  13. Emotional Intelligence • “a set of emotional and social skills that influence the way we perceive and express ourselves, develop and maintain social relationships, cope with challenges, and use emotional information in an effective and meaningful way.”

  14. IQ, EI or Personality • Intelligence Quotient – a person’s ability to learn and reason usually identified using problem solving tests Emotional Intelligence - a person’s ability to judge and regulate emotion in oneself and others Personality - the combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual's distinctive character …personality provides the context in which emotional intelligence operates

  17. How do we tie DISC to Emotional and Social Intelligence?

  18. You determine there’s something you need to address Decide what do you want to achieve and how will you achieve it? Conduct a self-check of your Emotional Intelligence? Map out your approach using DISC

  19. You determine there’s something you need to address Bill is struggling on a project. He isn’t meeting deadlines and can’t seem to prioritize project tasks. Decide what do you want to achieve and how will you achieve it? You need to get Bill back on track and decide to have a sit-down with Bill and explain what you are seeing, its impact, and what you would like to see going forward. Conduct a self-check of your Emotional Intelligence? You know that self-regulation is your lowest EI area. You can get frustrated when things are not going well and you have a tendency to express your frustration verbally. Think about this situation and where you feel frustrated. Now think about how you interact with Bill. Do you get frustrated interacting with him and if so, can you identify what behaviors trigger your frustration.

  20. Now think about how you should interact with Bill. How can you adjust your behaviors so you have a productive and meaningful interaction with Bill? Your DISC style High D Low I High S Low C Bill’s DISC style Low D High I High S High C What are some approaches you might take with Bill? • What do I need to do? • How do I want to do it? • Do I need to regulate myself? • How can I use DISC to interact more effectively?
