What is Diabetes Mellitus?
DIABETES MELLITUS - History • CVS: Angina, heart failure, hypertension, intermittend claudication • GIT: “full feeling” after meals, nausea, vomiting, constipation • NEUROLOGICAL: Mononeuropathies, peripheral neuropathy, radiculopathy, transient ischemic attacks, CVA (stroke) • VISION: Blurred vision, cataracts, previous laser therapy
Classification of Diabetes Mellitus: Type 1 Type 2 Type “3” Gestational
DMT2: • Usually Older; • ↑ Weight ± A Nigr.; • Slow Onset; • Usually Asympt.; • Initially Non-insulin & • May present with Complications! DKA
Complications of diabetes mellitus ACUTE: • Myocardial Infarction • Stroke • Critical limb ischemia • Metabolic3 CHRONIC: MicroVascular MACROVascular
