General situation in China • In 2001, State Environmental Protection Administration of China started to promote the “12369” environmental hotline and 12369 center to accept and handle environmental cases. An “12369”hotline network was established at four levels (county, city, province and state) based on the experience of pilot cities.

  4. General situation in China • According to statistics, by the end of 2005, over 600 cities and over 600 districts have established 1153 “12369” hotlines, which covers 70.1% county and larger administrative regions (HK, Macao and Taiwan are not included). The state environmental system (not including HK, Macao and Taiwan, China ) accepts more than ten thousands cases of environmental pollution and ecological damage.

  5. General situation in China • Network setting The network has been built among the environmental protection agencies of country, city and district (county) levels, which achieve the goal of information sharing.
